Intro to River Skills (Flatwater)

Are you interested in paddling rivers but not feeling quite ready to jump in? This four hour flatwater clinic will cover all the basic techniques necessary to navigate rivers.
We’ll start our day off talking about gear for the rivers (fins, boards, paddles, etc.) and safety. From there we’ll move on the water and go over everything from paddle strokes to bracing. Feeling comfortable with all of these skills is step one to getting into paddling rivers and whitewater. This clinic will give you confidence and ensure your success when transferring to current.
*This clinic is for paddlers of all levels.
*We will be offering this clinic in select locations. To sign up visit our tour schedule and look for the ‘Intro to River Skills’ class title. If you don’t see your town on there please feel free to contact us and request we visit your hometown.

Level I-II

We will start you on flatwater with our free drop-in paddle the afternoon before our full-day clinics for an informal skill assessment. This is an opportunity for us to get to know you and see where you’re at in your skill level. Not only is this for your own safety but it’ll allow us to tweak our teaching outline to cater to the areas where attention is needed more than others.
After our skill assessment we’ll spend a full day covering all river running basics — from gear and safety to eddy turns and ferries. We’ll help you understand water dynamics and reading water so you can navigate the river with confidence.
*Our clinics are not for the beginner paddler. We require you to be confident on a stand up paddle board on flatwater with a general understanding of paddling basics (i.e. forward stroke, back stroke, C-stroke).
*The Beginner Paddler – we want to get you on the water. Contact us to inquire about private instruction to help you meet the skills requirement for the Class I-II course.
